There are two multipurpose dams in Shionoe area. One is Naiba dam, which had broken ground in 1938 and been completed in 1953, passing by an interruption because of the WW II. In Naiba dam, we could walk in the inspection gallery, which is made for maintenance for the dam.
Another is Kabagawa dam, which is now under construction and will be completed by 2020. This dam will be one of the biggest dam in Shikoku region. The height of bank will be almost 300ft and the surface of water might be same height as platform on left side of the slope in the picture. A manager also explained us about many technologies which are essential for the dam. There is exquisite charm of huge architecture.
In Kagawa Prefecture, a water shortage has been crucial and constant matter since old times. You can see many artificial ponds around the prefecture (even on Google Earth). In the water shortage in 1994, a water supply had been cut for 19 hours a day in Takamatsu city. Even now, a half of the water supply depends on Yoshino River in Tokushima Prefecture. Therefore, Government in Kagawa have been constructing dams for decades.
A construction of the dam causes a vast environmental disruption. Furthermore, settlements in the dam site must be submerged. Therefore, the construction has argued often. However, a necessity of the dam was also clear and imminent. We have studied about a complexed difficulty on this matter in the tour.
After the tour, we had a barbecue party. Shionoe is famous for wild boars. Usually, we cook boar meat for stew. But we have barbecued it there. A special barbecue sauce which was made from Miso (matured soy bean paste) by local people, was so delicious!
We also have some plans for events on upcoming months. Please contact us for the exciting and beneficial events!
